Challenge

Mobilising a complex digital integration ahead of a major weather event while ensuring operational readiness across multiple sites.

Solution

Ventia’s digital team delivered seamless system integration, automated workflows, and depot connectivity to enable day-one service delivery.

Impact

The project went live on time and under budget, processed 500+ work orders in two weeks, and set a new standard for scalable digital transformation.

In 2024, Ventia was awarded a new four-year contract by Seqwater to deliver preventative, corrective and reactive maintenance for their electrical, mechanical and instrumental assets across its water network.

The transition kicked off in September 2024, and our team officially went live on the new contract on March 3 of this year - ahead of the predicted arrival of then Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

A key element of this contract mobilisation was the digital implementation, which ensured a successful integration of Ventia's systems with our customer’s system, enabling the operational team to hit the ground running on day one.

This work was not only commended by our customer, but the digital team have also now been recognised by the Australian Institute of Project Management as a finalist in the Project Management Achievement Awards for Women in Project Management.

Digital Delivery: A Key to Success

A pivotal element of the mobilisation of any new contract is the digital stream. Successful digital delivery ensures the seamless integration of Ventia's systems with customer’s systems to enable smooth operational service from day one.

Through the leadership and execution of Jessica Noonan, Wendy Gallibu-Wang, Taylor Cougle and Sam McCoy, Ventia’s digital services team played a key role in ensuring a successful mobilisation of Ventia’s Seqwater contract in March 2025.

Core Achievements of the Digital Project

The successful project included the following key elements:

  • Leadership: Led by Sam, Taylor, Wendy, and Jessica, the project exemplified the importance of project management in driving transformative outcomes in infrastructure and IT.
  • Seamless system integration: Ventia’s systems were successfully integrated with Seqwater’s platforms, enabling real-time work order management and efficient service delivery from day one.
  • Digital transformation: The digital workstream introduced automated timesheets and enriched reporting capabilities, improving billing accuracy and reducing the potential for manual errors.
  • Operational readiness: Two fully connected depots were established, ensuring seamless access to SAP and related systems for field teams.
  • Resilience Under Pressure: Despite Tropical Cyclone Alfred, services went live on schedule, with over 500 work orders processed in the first fortnight.

Driving Long-Term Value

The impact of the delivering such a successful digital integration included:

  • Efficiency and service quality: The project delivered enhanced operational efficiency, optimised resource management, and improved service responsiveness.
  • Governance and security: Supported by robust quality and ICT management plans, Ventia’s IT solutions meet ISO2700x standards for information security.
  • Scalable innovation: The methodologies and digital frameworks developed are adaptable across other regions and sectors, including energy, transport, and public infrastructure.

Having successfully mobilised all elements of the project, the Ventia team are hard at work supporting Seqwater to deliver for the people of southeast Queensland.
