Challenge

TasWater required a safer, more functional access road in Kingston, including the complex removal of an asbestos cement pipe and coordination with private landowners.

Solution

Ventia delivered a comprehensive upgrade involving road sealing, drainage, guard rails, and AC pipe replacement, while engaging early with stakeholders and using recycled materials from local suppliers.

Impact

The project improved road safety and environmental outcomes, minimised community disruption, and supported TasWater’s sustainability goals through innovative, locally sourced solutions.

Ventia was engaged by our customer TasWater to upgrade a critical access road in Kingston Tasmania, to improve safety and functionality.

The project involved a comprehensive scope of works including road sealing and shaping, guard rail installation, drainage improvements, and the replacement of a section of asbestos cement (AC) pipe.

Ventia deliver essential services for TasWater including building and open space maintenance, asset management, and project delivery.

As this road project incorporated private access, our team engaged early with the local landowner to ensure that disruption was minimised and that relevant requests could be incorporated into the design.

In addition to engaging with stakeholders the team were required to manage the environmental risks associated with the AC pipe replacement as well as ensuring the relevant standards for the road were met.

Given the nature of the removal of the AC pipe, Ventia engaged with subject matter experts from TasWater to coordinate the replacement during the works.

A key feature of this project was the use of recycled concrete sourced from local Tasmanian civil contracting firm AWC Pty Ltd.

This was important to our team as we recognise that every decision and action we take is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment around us.

The material utilised was reprocessed building waste material, which after processing

results in a high-quality recycled crushed rock, ideal for use as a base material on low-traffic volume rural and urban roads.

“Our approach is to work with TasWater to maximise their assets and also to enhance the sustainability of their operations,” said Project Director Stuart Hurd.

We’re proud of the way we delivered this project and the way we were able to incorporate engagement with the local community, utilising local suppliers as well as a sustainable solution into the delivery.

Community and sustainability and important to us and their important to our customers and that’s why we try to embed that into everything we do.
