Back for another year and bringing the energy to Whangārei, Ventia proudly sponsored Girls In Infrastructure led by Infrastructure New Zealand.

Over 100 wāhine (female) school leavers explored the exciting world of infrastructure services at Semenoff Stadium on 10 June. Our talented Ventia team stepped up to share their stories, offering insights and career inspiration to the eager crowd of college students exploring what a future in infrastructure could look like.

Reu Kopa, Traffic Management Supervisor said the interactive element made a big impact:

Seeing the students engage with the TTM truck and ask questions made me hopeful that more young women will realise their potential and lead with purpose. Being part of this event reminded me how far I’ve come. As a woman in a hands-on role, I know how important visibility is.

Backing the Next Generation of Women in Infrastructure

Ventia’s continued involvement in the Girls in Infrastructure event reflects our long-term commitment to building a more inclusive infrastructure industry. By supporting initiatives that connect young women with real-world experiences and role models, we’re helping to break down barriers and inspire the next wave of female talent to explore and thrive in infrastructure careers.

One of the standout figures at this year’s event was Reu Kopa, who now leads Ventia’s Traffic Management team in Northland. Having built her career from the ground up, Reu brings a relatable, hands-on perspective that really connects with students.

Where else can you climb into a TTM truck, chat with industry pros, and walk away with a game plan for your future? Events like this turn curiosity into career direction and that’s what makes them so powerful.

Reu was especially impressed by the energy and engagement from students. “They asked great questions, got involved, and really made the most of the day. It’s awesome to see that kind of enthusiasm coming through from the next generation.”

The Girls in Infrastructure event in Northland was hosted by Infrastructure New Zealand in association with the Women’s Infrastructure Network, with support from Ventia and other major infrastructure companies. We’re proud to be part of this kaupapa- bridging the gap, backing what matters, and striving to be the role models our industry and communities deserve.
