We are proud to announce that Antonella Banno, General Manager of the Defence Maintenance Contract (DMC), has been named Executive of the Year Large Organisation, at the Australian Defence Industry Awards 2026.  

This prestigious recognition acknowledges Antonella’s leadership in transforming one of Defence’s largest maintenance programs, helping reposition the DMC from a traditional contractor model into an integrated capability partner that directly supports Defence readiness and operational outcomes.

Over the past two years, Antonella has led significant cultural, workforce and operational change across a workforce of more than 700 personnel. Under her leadership, vacancy rates have reduced from 16 per cent to 6 per cent, workforce capability has strengthened, and collaboration with Defence has deepened, resulting in the first contract extension.

Central to this transformation has been a focus on integration. By embedding a “best for Defence” mindset and fostering a culture of transparency and shared accountability, Antonella has helped break down traditional barriers between industry and Defence, enabling faster decision-making, stronger partnerships and improved delivery outcomes.

Antonella has also championed initiatives to strengthen Australia’s sovereign Defence sustainment capability. These include establishing a dedicated Workforce Capability Team, creating veteran transition pathways, recognising Defence-specific qualifications through a redesigned trade classification system, and investing in innovation that empowers frontline teams to solve complex maintenance challenges.

Her leadership has positioned Ventia at the forefront of Defence sustainment, supporting major activities including Talisman Sabre, and the introduction of US equipment maintenance capability in Australia. 

As one of the few women leading large-scale Defence sustainment operations, Antonella is also a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion. She has built a leadership team that combines deep Defence experience with expertise from across industry, creating an environment where diverse perspectives drive innovation and performance.

Together, we’ve built a team focused on delivering outcomes that strengthen Defence capability and support Australia’s national security. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and excited about what lies ahead.”
