Late last year, 20 students from Erskineville Public School visited the completed Macdonaldtown Gasworks Remediation site in Sydney to plant seedlings as part of a Greening Australia workshop, organised and sponsored by Ventia.
Each of the participating students are active members of the school's sustainability group, and were enthusiastic to get out in the field to learn more.
The workshop focused on planting Australian native species, and the students were helped by their teachers and representatives from Ventia and RailCorp. Armed with key learnings from their experience in the field, each child was presented with a plant pack to take home and grow in their own garden.
Nan-Maree Schoerie, General Manager Utility Services, Ventia said, "We're proud to provide younger generations an opportunity to learn about sustainability and our native environment.
The Macdonaldtown Gasworks Remediation project has brought together the wider community, restoring this land to be safely used into the future.
"Thank you to Erskineville Public School for helping to bring the area to life," said Nan-Maree.
