This year, Ventia is honoured to be part of something deeply meaningful-Seeds of Hope, a community activation on Karangahape Road that speaks to the heart of who we are. The 2025 theme, Matariki mā Puanga, emphasises inclusion and diversity.
In the early morning light of 19 June, as the stars of Matariki rise, 500 native seed packets will be gifted to locals at a community breakfast (led by the Karangahape Road Business Association for Matariki 2025). Each packet carries more than seeds-it carries a wish, a dream, a quiet hope for the year ahead. Inspired by Hiwa-i-te-Rangi, the star of aspirations, this initiative invites us all to reflect on what we want to grow-in our lives, in our communities, and in the world around us.
This initiative is made possible through a meaningful partnership with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Pourewa Nursery, who are helping us source native seeds that reflect the values of care for the whenua and cultural connection. Their involvement ensures the kaupapa is grounded in te ao Māori and supports local ecological wellbeing.
This project is a true One Ventia collaboration. Each sector brings its own heartbeat to the kaupapa:
Together, we’re planting more than seeds-we’re planting connection, care, and collective hope.
Matariki is a time to remember, to renew, and to reconnect. It’s a moment to pause and ask: What do we want to grow this year? Through this initiative, we honour te ao Māori, support environmental wellbeing, and stand alongside our communities with open hearts and open hands.
This is Ventia’s strategy in action:
In the lead-up to the event, we’ll be sharing the story behind the seeds-why they matter, who they’re for, and what they represent. After the celebration, we’ll share the moments that made it special.
Because this isn’t just a sponsorship. It’s a gift. A gesture. A promise.
And like all good seeds, it starts small-but grows into something beautiful.
