Sharon is a friendly and welcoming face for travellers making their journey on the iconic Prospector service at East Perth train station. She's also a popular member of the Delron team. 

Following a workplace injury earlier in her career, Sharon found it difficult to find a new opportunity.

Fronting up for interviews she found the response to her injury frustrating.

"As soon as I tell them that I did an injury at work, they just turn around and say you're a liability I don't want to take the chance," she said. 

That was until she joined the Disability Employment Services program with APM Employment Services, which helped her to move forward and become a valued member of the Delron team.

It's given me my self-esteem back, my confidence back, I feel like I'm a new person, she said.

Sharon's role at Delron

The iconic Prospector is a rural train service that travels from Perth to the goldfield's town of Kalgoorlie. 

Sharon was hired by Delron to work on the Transway contract, which brought her to engaging with the passengers and crew of The Prospector.

Sharon's role as a porter includes guiding passengers to their carriage, helping with luggage and answering any questions with a welcoming smile.

Her presence provides a welcoming and comforting presence for passengers and staff. These interactions are also one of the most enjoyable parts of the job for Sharon.

They're wonderful people to work with, the passengers, you can have a laugh with them, she said. 

Delron Executive Manager Brad Western said that he's proud of the relationship that has been built with APM. 

Employing people with a disability for us gives us a chance to give something back to the community," he said.

'It also allows us to differentiate ourselves by creating these opportunities."
