At Ventia, we know that meaningful relationships don't happen overnight. When working with iwi, it's about more than a meet and greet. It's about building trust, listening and learning from one another and creating partnerships that grow stronger over time.

Recently, Ventia and Far North District Council (FNDC) were warmly welcomed onto Taipā Marae by Matakairiri Hapū of Ngāti Kahu. Following the pōwhiri, beautiful kai was shared, and meaningful connections and kōrero were established.

Matakairiri Hapū of Ngāti Kahu iwi with FNDC & Ventia

Across Aotearoa, Ventia works alongside iwi, customers, partners and communities to help maintain and care for some of New Zealand's most important infrastructure and public spaces. The relationships we build are an important part of that work, helping us better understand local aspirations and deliver outcomes that matter.

Through our work, we strive to be good kaitiaki (guardians/stewards) of the places and assets entrusted to our care.

says Ricky Steedman, Kaitohutohu Māori.

Māori Language Week is also a reminder that language and relationships go hand in hand. Whether it's learning a new Māori word or phrase, having a conversation about Māori art or music or just taking the time to listen, as small actions can help strengthen our connections with others.

This week and throughout September, we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to connect with the people around them and continue building relationships that help us all move forward together.

Together we go further.

Mauri ora.
