Pink has been the dominant colour at Ventia’s Barangaroo project site this month where the Environmental Services remediation team has shown their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month by wearing pink hi-vis shirts.
Close to $4000 will now be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation after it was raised through the purchase price of the shirts and a BBQ held by the team.
Organised by Safety Health Environment and Quality Manager, John Wakeman, and Project Manager, Adam Fletcher, John was motivated to raise awareness after his mother was diagnosed and survived breast cancer fourteen years ago. “It’s amazing when you do something like this how many people come out and talk to you about having been touched by similar experiences,” he said.
Though survival rates of breast cancer continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis it remains the most common cancer among Australian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer).
