Ventia has been awarded the Non-Network Infrastructure Services Contract with Energy Queensland Ltd (EQL), for an initial term of five years.

EQL is the Queensland Government entity that combines the state-owned electricity distributors Ergon Energy and Energex, and manages assets spanning 1.7 million square kilometres across Queensland and servicing 2.3 million connected customers.

Through the contract, Ventia will provide a broad range of facilities and property management services to EQL, including building maintenance and construction, property management, cleaning, grounds maintenance, security services and vehicle fleet administration at sites across Queensland.

This is the first time that these services have been combined under a single contract for EQL. 

Facilities and assets within scope include offices, regional depots, warehouses and storage facilities, communication sites, substations, pad-mounted transformers, 33 isolated power stations (on 18 remote islands in the Torres Strait), and a small fleet of vehicles.

EQL has chosen Ventia as a collaborative partner that will deliver operational improvements and efficiencies aligning with ISO 55001 principles - the international standard on asset management systems.

This contract is a good fit for Ventia's existing state-wide operations for clients such as Telstra, via our Visionstream business, and Ventia's Utility Services division is currently a transmission and distribution maintenance contractor to Ergon and Energex.

We will build on our already strong presence in Queensland, and deliver services wherever possible through local small and medium sized enterprises. This is in line with our focus on building local supplier capacity in the communities in which we work.

Another priority will also be on indigenous engagement in regional areas, which aligns with the Queensland Government's Indigenous Procurement Policy and work we do in other states, including Western Australia.

Ventia's operational teams will be co-located with EQL at its facilities in Newstead (Brisbane), Toowoomba and Townsville.

The contract term started on 1 February 2019.
