As part of World Rivers Day, Ventia staff will get their hands dirty on the banks of the Bundamba Creek in Ipswich this Friday to help restore the health of the Bremer River catchment.
They will join representatives from the International River Foundation and Ipswich City Council as well as members of the public to plant native trees and grasses to help stabilise Bundamba Creek's banks and provide a habitat for wildlife.
Ventia is a new services company created in 2015 through the integration of the Leighton Contractors Services, Thiess Services and Visionstream businesses.
“It is part of Ventia’s sustainability commitment to contribute to the local communities in which we work,” said Ventia’s Group Manager – Environment and Community, Darren Moore.
“Ventia’s environmental services team has been transforming some of the country’s most contaminated waterways and land for more than 25 years, so we are pleased we can bring our professional skills and machinery to such a great local community cause.
“This year’s effort builds on the successful creek restoration activities with the foundation over the past two years in the Bremer River catchment to create a green corridor so the wildlife can move in and around the river.
"We're planting species native to the area, basically replicating the species that are fully-grown in this area,” said Darren.
