A partnership with local Indigenous people and training and employment service, Real Futures, has connected the community and created jobs and a sense of place through the restoration of a traditional Indigenous meeting place.

The site, in the Kempsey and Port Macquarie region in New South Wales, Australia, shows how passionate teams - like the Mid-North Coast nbn team - can make infrastructure work for communities, and build team morale at the same time. 

Mayor of Kempsey Shire Council, Elizabeth Campbell, "It's been fantastic to see Visionstream come into our community, get to know and understand us, so that we've been able to deliver this project."

The team worked together to remove rubbish and weeds, install new park benches, upgrade the path and plant indigenous flora around the local footbridge, path and boat ramp. 

The result? The revival of a traditional meeting place for the local community. Young Indigenous locals now have safer access to the footbridge that links South and West Kempsey, and the local picnic area has been revived to its former community feel.

The team was recently recognised for their community-mindedness with an inaugural 'Our Purpose Award' as part of Ventia's employee recognition program.
