Launched in 2014, the Toyota Mirai was one of the world's first hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) on the Australian market and indeed the world.
Ventia has recently taken delivery of a second-generation model Mirai, one of only 20 in Australia, for its Western Roads Upgrade project team in Victoria.
The vehicle will be used as a pool car and is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by more than seven tonnes compared to a petrol-fueled car.
The team visited Toyota's Hydrogen Centre in Altona to collect the vehicle and learn more about the technology that powers the Mirai.
Matt MacLeod, Manager - Energy Solutions at Toyota who leads Toyota Australia's hydrogen fuel cell activities, was on hand to take the team through the technology and vehicle features.
'Hydrogen has the potential to truly be a game-changer for our economy and society as a whole, through fuel cells for mobility and power and as a method of energy storage," said Mr MacLeod.
"The Gen-2 Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle holds 5.6kg of hydrogen and gets a range of around 650km. The technologies and learnings of our hybrid program from the last 20 years are in this car.

The word Mirai means 'future' and Ventia is on a journey to target 100% of its light fleet to be electric or hybrid by 2030, as it works towards its sustainability goal of creating a positive impact for future generations and a lasting legacy for people, communities and the planet.

"The Mirai and our broader vehicle transition represents an opportunity for us to be agile today and into the future as we strive to deliver our carbon reduction target.
