Pamela Chan, electrical engineer, leads our National PMO — and loves the challenge!

Since walking in as a graduate engineer 13 years ago, Ventia's Pamela Chan has always taken great pride in being able to deliver an important service to the communities that we work in.

Being able to deliver a project that provides an important service for a local community is one of the key things that drives Pamela Chan in her role at Ventia.

"There are so many aspects to a job in the telecommunications industry — you can work across everything from site acquisition and design, through to the construction phase of a mobile network that services a local community or all of Australia," she said. "It's challenging at times but the different aspects to it makes it very interesting also."

Pamela has been with Ventia for 13 years. She commenced her journey straight out of university, starting as a graduate electrical engineer in the engineering team.

Having moved through a number of different roles, Pamela is now the National Project Management Office (PMO) Manager.

"I look after the PMO for our three main wireless contracts," she said.

"It's a wide-ranging role and involves monitoring project performance, project controls and ensuring we are adequately identifying and managing any risks.

"I also help to work on new opportunities."

One of Pamela's favourite aspects of her role is being able to have an impact on delivering a positive outcome for the client.

I really enjoy being able to identify any issues early, then make changes and improvements which can not only be applied straight away but we can also use on the next job.

Having been in the telecommunications industry for the past 13 years, Pamela has seen a bit of change, but she expects that change to be even more rapid in the years ahead.

"As technology changes, the type of projects we work on are shifting and we are needing to be more efficient and continue to reassess the best way to deliver," she said.

"It means we need to be constantly looking at how we work so that we can continue to provide the best service to our clients."
