After winning the northern award earlier this year, the Cox Peninsula remediation team were proud to be named finalists at a national level in the Engineers Australia Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA).

The Australian Engineering Excellence Award in Project Management Award recognises outstanding achievement in engineering and the contribution engineering makes to the economy, community and the environment.

All finalist projects were judged against various criteria including economic contribution, significance as a benchmark and world best practice. 

Hallmarks of the Cox Peninsula project were exceptional performance in the areas of remote area logistics, successful use of multiple remediation technologies, and tropical cyclone weather constraints.

Success was also measured by whether there was open communication within the team and the community they were working in. The Cox Peninsula project demonstrated strong engagement with the Traditional Owners of the land who together, with a broader indigenous workforce, made up 35% of the site team and helped ensure the site's cultural heritage was preserved.
