The future of our energy networks industry is in good hands with two outstanding Ventia trainees recognised as finalists at the Connexis Excellence Awards for 2023.

The annual awards recognise trainees' dedication to self-development through industry training and the difference they have made to the electricity supply and telecommunications industries.

Pat Kurucake

Electrical Fitter Pat Kurucake was a finalist in the Transmission Trainee of the Year category for his exemplary approach to his work, dedication to learning and leadership ability. After moving to New Zealand from Fiji, Pat made the leap into the energy industry, completing his apprenticeship and playing an important role in significant projects, including Ventia's work to restore power to Redclyffe substation following Cyclone Gabrielle.

Ventia Energy Networks and Renewables General Manager New Zealand Craig MacDonald said the caliber of young people across the industry and Ventia inspired confidence in the future.

"It's fantastic to see Pat and Fred in the line-up of finalists this year - they should be admired for making the most of all the self-development opportunities available to them," Craig said.

They, along with so many of their peers are the future leaders of our industry and deserve recognition.
