The award recognises Ventia’s work in developing a measurable, scalable approach to social impact - one that has changed how business, government, and communities collaborate for shared benefit.

In 2024, we delivered an estimated $3.9 billion in measured social value, underpinned by our pioneering work to develop a standardised, scalable, and culturally adapted approach to social value measurement.

The Global Excellence in Social Value award is a prestigious international award which recognises organisations that have demonstrated exceptional innovation and commitment to social value across international contexts. It celebrates initiatives that bridge the gap by standardising social value reporting or that create breakthrough innovations benefiting global communities through social impact.

Ventia’s Approach

Our approach to social value is underpinned by the Australian version of the Themes, Outcomes and Measures (TOMs) framework, which Ventia co-developed through the Australian Social Value Taskforce alongside over 50 organisations from the public, private, and 3rd sectors.

This work has created a common, consistent and comparable way to measure and demonstrate social impact and is now being adopted by organisations across Australia. The approach also uses the power of procurement to integrate social considerations into procurement and incentives suppliers to compete on delivering more good for society.

Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer Dean Banks says that he’s proud to see our leadership in this space.

We are setting new benchmarks for what good looks like - standardising what was previously unmeasurable and embedding social value into the core of how business gets done.

Working together with customers, communities and supply chain

Group Manager Social Sustainability Aaron Reid says that this award emphasises the importance of working together to achieve impactful results in the social value economy.

“Through our role with the taskforce, our engagement with community and Indigenous stakeholders, and our procurement alignment with our customers, we’re delivering more than reporting,” Aaron explains.

We are unlocking better procurement, more accountable supply chains, and stronger social license to operate.

Ventia’s model was built through genuine collaboration with Indigenous leaders, Reconciliation Australia, and social impact professionals. The result: Indigenous-specific measures aligned to Closing the Gap targets and considers the impact on future generations.

Projects use local needs analyses to direct investment where it matters most - supporting employment, training, and supplier diversity across urban, regional, and remote Australia.

Embedding social value in supply chain

Ventia is also a founding partner of the Australian Supply Chain Sustainability School, which will provide free, open-access training to help businesses integrate social value into procurement, operations, and workforce development.

Guy Battle, CEO of Social Value Portal and Co-Chair of the Australian Social Value Taskforce, noted:

Ventia has played a pivotal role in embedding Social Value into the fabric of infrastructure delivery in Australia. Their leadership exemplifies what global excellence looks like.

Ventia’s leadership is clear: we didn’t wait for regulation or mandates.

In a global field dominated by multinationals, Ventia’s win proves that an Australian business can lead the world - by measuring what matters and delivering value for both shareholders and society.

We invite other companies to join the Australian Social Value Taskforce, to help shape the next evolution of the framework and collaborate on ensuring Australian businesses remain a genuine force for good in society.

In 2024 alone, Ventia achieved:
