Ventia has secured a new $6 million construction project with BHP to install and commission a new cooling tower at its Olympic Dam site in South Australia.

The team's technical expertise in understanding the construction project scope was key to securing this new work. This was demonstrated by a detailed cost estimate and schedule, that was developed using a combination of systems and tools including Primavera P6 for scheduling, Hard Dollar for cost estimating, and Oracle Unifier for project management to deliver a comprehensive solution.

Chief Executive, Resources, Tom Quinn said: "We have worked at Olympic Dam for 20 years. This latest project demonstrates our ability to provide shutdowns and turnarounds solutions for highly complex technical scopes of work in the mining industry with a disciplined approach to safety, costs and schedule."

Broadspectrum will install and commission a new cooling tower, and then decommission and demolish the existing one. It will engage Broadspectrum across a range of disciplines including construction, project management, civil, mechanical, structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation services.

BHP is a world-leading resources company. The Olympic Dam facility is one of the world's largest ore bodies, and one of the world's largest deposits of copper, gold, and uranium. Olympic Dam operates a fully integrated processing facility from ore to metal.

The cooling tower is expected to be complete by January 2019.
