Ventia's Water business has been awarded a contract by Yarra Valley Water, to replace 172 existing sewer vent stack pipes and install ten new vent stacks on their Melbourne network.
Vent stacks are designed to ventilate the sewerage system to prevent the build-up of odorous gases and minimise corrosion within the system.
The vent stacks are found throughout metropolitan Melbourne, but usually go unnoticed by most in the community.
Most of Yarra Valley Water's sewer vents are located in the inner municipalities of Melbourne and many of these have been in service for approximately 100 years and are considered at their 'end of life'.
Ventia's specialist crews will replace these ageing assets and install ten new vent stacks to strict Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) standards.
After undertaking geotechnical investigations to gain an understanding of the ground and site conditions, the installation works are planned and finalised in consultation with Yarra Valley Water engineers before commencement.
The team is currently mobilising and organising resources and logistics where the program is expected to run for approximately 12 months.
