After a number of years delivering the State Observation Bore Monitoring program for groundwater bores in the state of Victoria, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has extended Ventia's program.
Managed by our Environmental Monitoring Groundwater team, the program involves water level gauging and quality analysis at the 1,500 bore sites, along with technical maintenance of a telemetered sensor network and minor construction and repairs of the bore headworks.
When our client flagged the need to receive the bore monitoring data faster, our team provided the technology solution - developing the systems and delivering the installation of a 350-site (and growing) telemetry network at key bore sites.
Telemetry is an automated communications process that allows measurements and other data collected at remote or inaccessible points to be transmitted to receiving equipment for monitoring.
The data collected by the Geelong team, both via the new telemetry network and in-field manual measurements, is used by DELWP for resources decision-making, including decisions about water allocation for irrigators and the farming community.
The award of the program extension is testament to the strong working relationship between Ventia and DELWP, and the team has achieved an excellent safety record of zero reportable safety incidents over the delivery of the program.
