Since 2021, Ventia has been delivering the SRAPC for Transport for NSW (TfNSW) across the Parkland zone. Under this contract, Ventia provides asset management, road maintenance, supports incident response, and capital works to an area covering seven local government areas, including the World Heritage Listed Blue Mountains. As well as the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and electrical maintenance across the Parklands zone and Regional NSW.
The contract footprint covers approximately 5,400 square kms of land and boasts an incredibly diverse road network. From the major urban areas in Sydney's west, such as Liverpool, Penrith, Fairfield, and Campbelltown, which are experiencing rapid growth and increasing traffic challenges, to the sensitive natural environment, challenging terrain, and variable weather conditions of the Blue Mountains. The dichotomy of delivering works in areas sensitive to economic and urban activity impacts, alongside areas sensitive to environmental impacts and prone to natural disasters, poses a unique challenge to the asset management and planning teams.
In 2024, Ventia delivered a record-setting TAMP thanks to the team's ability to plan and execute extensive maintenance and improvement projects. This included slope remediation projects, bridge maintenance jobs, ITS upgrades, and road safety projects.
Ventia’s holistic asset management framework utilises innovative technology that enhances real-time integration capabilities with third-party systems, allowing for seamless data exchange and up-to-date reporting, and AI and predictive analytics and modelling to inform decisions on budget allocation and prioritisation of works, ensuring the budget is maximised across the network.
The extreme weather events of 2022-23 posed significant challenges, causing multiple slope failures and infrastructure damage. The team delivered slope remediation works in the Blue Mountains area, where extreme weather events had left unsafe driving conditions and multiple road closures due to landslips, rockfall, and road damage. Works included major slope stabilisation and remediation along the Bells Line of Road, Putty Road, and the Great Western Highway, as well as flood debris removal in North Richmond.
In October 2024, the Infrastructure Sustainability Council commended the SRAPC team for initiatives to minimize environmental impacts, such as using ‘crumb rubber’ mix asphalt, which has diverted over 2,000 used tyres from landfill, and reusing other materials where possible, including over 400 cubic meters of sandstone from slope remediation works.
We are incredibly proud of our SRAPC team's achievements and their unwavering commitment to excellence. This award is a well-deserved recognition of their hard work and dedication.
