NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Sydney South road network includes 670 kilometres of roads, 201 bridges and eight tunnels. It stretches from south of Sydney Harbour, west to Parramatta and south to Royal National Park. RMS needed a partner to take stewardship of this important transport infrastructure.

RMS contracted Ventia, in a joint venture with Boral Construction Materials and Amey, to provide a range of services under a Stewardship Maintenance Contract (SMC). These services include:

  • maintenance and improvement works
  • network operations support
  • operational asset management
  • incident management
  • event management
  • associated project management.

Value for our client and their customers

As a result of our asset management practices and our strong collaborative stewardship values, we are providing real value for money. Which means that RMS is in turn providing real value for money to their customers, the road users. They enjoy reliable, fit-for-purpose road infrastructure, as well as seamless delivery of road O&M, incident management and event management services.

A key focus is minimising impacts on road users. For example, on the Captain Cook Bridge rehabilitation project, an innovative solution not only delivered considerable savings to RMS but also eliminated the need for more than 40 road or lane closures during the project works.

RMS’s reputation has been enhanced through the successful implementation of the Sydney South SMC, through delivery of greater than targeted improvement work projects in Year One and through the efficient procurement processes for projects up to $20 million. The SMC project typically receives 15 to 20 positive feedbacks per month from customers and stakeholders.

This project is another contribution to our successful record of delivering road maintenance and minor capital works on high traffic, high speed road networks, while working collaboratively to improve value for money, reduce the impact of road works, enhance real-time information for our client and road users and realise continuous improvement.

  • Development and deployment of mobile technology solutions to provide live reporting to RMS, real-time performance information and efficient planning tools
  • Implementation of over 50 continuous improvement initiatives realising $1.2m service cost savings since 2014
  • Delivery of iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and Marsh Street Capital Works Projects
  • Meeting 100% of critical milestones for the Deadman’s Creek Bridge project, with acclaim from Roads and Maritime and South Zone political stakeholders. This critical link was opened to traffic two months ahead of schedule
