Description

Ventia is delivering a major brownfield upgrade of the Burpengary East STP, including construction of a new inlet works, bioreactor train, new clarifier, odour control facility, full electrical and control (E&C) upgrade and internal plant infrastructure renewals. All work occurs within an operational treatment facility, requiring continuous compliance and careful staging. Construction is underway and scheduled for completion in mid-late 2027.

Scope of work

• Delivery of a complex brownfield upgrade demonstrating capability in managing treatment‑plant works within a live operational environment.
• Staged construction planned in close coordination with Unitywater Operations to maintain treatment continuity, manage shutdowns and tie‑ins, and ensure full compliance.
• Management of more than 13 km of congested yard services requiring continuous utility identification, interaction and protection—reflecting similar challenges to GRC’s live‑service corridors.
• Integration of new process units into existing treatment trains, including flow‑splitter modifications, extensive tie‑ins and connections.
• Full electrical and control (E&C) system upgrade delivered while maintaining online operations.

Project outcomes

• Identified value‑engineering opportunities  including alternative solutions delivering equivalent capacity and functionality 
• Inlet Works Relocation: Proposed an alternative layout that was adopted
• Flow Splitter Innovation: Developed an off‑line construction solution that avoided high‑risk in‑situ works, reduced downtime and enabled safer delivery
• Delivered seamless mobilisation and integrated planning with operations, maintaining treatment continuity throughout construction and earning recognition from customer
