Description

The CleanPeak Energy Wangaratta Solar Farm, located in North Wangaratta, is a utility scale in-front-of-the-meter solar asset comprising 71,000 solar panels, fully automated to track the daily east-west movement of the sun, optimising renewable generation capability.

The Wangaratta Solar Farm will be connected to the surrounding distribution network, expected to supply 72,000 MWh of clean energy annually to the nearby Glenrowan substation, enough clean energy to avoid close to 60,000 tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere every year.

Providing grid connection services

Ventia provided the upgraded to Wangaratta’s electricity network to connect the future CleanPeak Energy Wangaratta Solar Farm to the network

The project included:

  • Replacing approximately 20 power poles between the Wangaratta Zone Substation and the planned Wangaratta Solar Farm site
  • Extending the 66kV line from the intersection of Bowser Road and Detour Road to the new solar farm
  • Installing overhead and underground communications cables along the entire length of the line from the Wangaratta Zone Substation to the solar farm.

This work will allow the new Wangaratta Solar Farm to feed the energy it generates back into the electricity network.

Scope of work

  • Power pole replacement
  • Transmission line construction
  • Installation of overhead and underground communications cables
