We have a proven record in managing complex projects throughout Australia’s most northern regions.

In Darwin, our operations and maintenance expertise has been integral to the construction of the Ichthys Onshore LNG site, which achieved an impressive safety performance with two million hours lost-time injury free. We’ve also been involved in the remediation of a major defence site on Darwin’s doorstep.

The communities of the Northern Territory are some of the most remote in the country, but this doesn’t stop our telecommunications business from servicing them and attending to network faults in communities such as Robinson River.

Our Rail teams work from SA to Darwin, maintaining rail for key clients, small and large.

We have a strong presence in the Defence sector in the region, delivering Defence Base Services, Defence Maintenance & Support Services, and National Clothing Store Services.

Through our specialist environment management consultancy, Ten Rivers, we support Defence and other clients in the NT with bushfire management. Using Geographic Information System (GIS), our spatial data management captures bushfire hazard and other environmental data to sort information such as zoning patterns, fire history and severity to provide meaningful intelligence. This is then used to inform targeted planning and decision making, as well as predictive analysis, such as bushfire-behaviour modelling that can help to determine the movement of fire through a landscape.

Some of our work in the NT

Cox Peninsula Remediation

Cox Peninsula had been used by the Commonwealth for maritime, communications and defence purposes for 120 years. The site was contaminated with asbestos, heavy metals and pesticides, and contained an array of abandoned infrastructure. The project team aimed to restore the natural environment, make the site safe for future use and return it to its Traditional Owners. Working with the local Aboriginal community was a strong focus and 35% of the project team was local. We also engaged the Northern Land Council’s Kenbi Ranger Group to deliver land management, heritage monitoring and other services. Read more here

Supporting local employement and apprenticeships in Darwin

The NT supports four LNG trains including two at INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG project, where Ventia, through a joint-venture called TRACE, provide maintenance services at the world-leading facility in Darwin. As part of the ongoing contract we provide some of the strongest employment and development opportunities for residents in the local region. The contract is operated by 220 locally employed people, 16% of whom are local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. We are also the Northern Territory’s highest employer of apprentices with 21 people currently undertaking Mechanical and Electrical apprenticeships. Read more here.

Keeping the Tindal RAAF base flying

Located approximately 330km south of Darwin, the RAAF base at Tindal provides forward mounting air force capability and hosts international personnel for training and exercises. Constrained by a tropical climate and the client’s operational needs, Ventia meticulously planned and staged the remediation of an extensive drainage network at an Air Force base in Australia’s Northern Territory. Read more here
