Have you ever been involved in a road incident? Whether you’ve run out of fuel, experienced a flat tyre or been in a nose to tail incident, it’s a stressful time.
To get to motorists sooner and help keep them safe, incident response motorcycles are now servicing the Gateway and Logan Motorways, as part of an Australian-first trial being delivered by Gateway Motorway Services (GMS) in partnership with Transurban Queensland.
The trial is the first of its kind in Australia and involves the deployment of two motorcycles during peak periods and congestion to provide supportive first contact along 64km of the Logan and Gateway motorways.
Motorists are in safe hands with our riders who each have more than 20 years motorcycle experience and have completed a Queensland Police theory workshop and Motorcycle Riding School practical training.
We’ve invested in state-of-the-art equipment, including a new airbag vest for riders and a more puncture resistant road tyre - both being trialled for the first time in Australia. Service Delivery Manager at GMS Brett Simpson said the riders will be able to perform basic incident response services.
“Riders will have the ability to offer motorists refuelling, battery charging, tyre change, first aid, small compartmental firefighting and general advice,” he says.
Paul Hillman, one of the riders, is looking forward to ensuring the trial is a success and can be implemented as part of normal operations.
“Breaking down on the motorway can be a very scary experience for people, so when we arrive on the scene to provide assistance, they are very grateful,” said Mr Hillman.
“These motorcycles are a great addition to our fleet and I’m really looking forward to getting to motorists sooner to provide the assistance they need.”
