We’re proud to continue our role in supporting New Zealand’s energy transition through the delivery of critical grid connections assets for the Tauhei Solar Farm.

Upon completion in 2026, the Tauhei Solar Farm will become one of New Zealand’s largest. Our team will be responsible for the delivery of:

  • A new 224 MVA 110/33kV substation
  • 2 km of 110kV overhead line
  • 2 km 2500mm2 underground cable connecting to the Transpower Waihou Substation

The Tauhei Solar Farm will be located in Te Aroha, between Hamilton and Tauranga on New Zealand’s north island.

The farm will be connected to Transpower's 110kV grid via the Waihou substation, which will ensure the integration of its production into the national grid. Once completed the park is expected to generate more than 280GWh of electricity per year, enough to power around 35,000 homes.

This is a complex, high-voltage project that showcases our team's capability in delivering critical energy infrastructure safely and efficiently,

said Craig MacDonald who is Ventia’s General Manager for Energy Networks and Renewables across New Zealand.

"We’re excited to get started on this significant project and continue to play our role in supporting New Zealand’s energy transition."

Karen Boyes, Northern Region Project Director, added:

We have a highly skilled team and we are looking forward to working alongside Elecnor & Harmony Energy to deliver this significant project to the high standard we are known for.

Ventia’s renewables portfolio continues to grow as we actively engage in the energy transition through maintenance services and minor capital works on hydro-generation, wind, solar and geothermal assets as well as grid connection assets to connect renewable projects to the national grid.
